PAST ACTIVITIES FOR DECEMBER
|
During our visit to Benin City in Edo State, everyone knew something BIG was happening in town. The Governor showed up at the venue of our Training / Audition and was amazed to see what we were doing.
We then thrilled him with a preview of the short clip we shot right inside the sound stage as part of our training; where we created a desert scene inside the BENIN CITY SOUND STAGE (Sir Victor Uwaifo Hub) and filmed the opening sequence of a hypothetical story we had conceived, shot, and edited in less than 3 hours! You can watch the uploaded movie below. Even though the training & film project are both privately funded activities carried out by the producer/director, people kept going on and on about how the Government is funding the initiative - and I understand why... people hardly go all the way to selflessly initiate such massive projects independently.
Moreover, the perceived scale of the movie's eventual outcome, coupled with the FREE training that was offered made people doubt if the whole thing could truly be self-funded. We're not just coming to take from the city... we're here to give to the City! |

I will be in Benin, come December 12th 2021, for an audition. The audition is for a film project I will be producing in 2022, titled "FOR THE CITY". |
While on the same trip I will be teaching FILMMAKING for two days, at the Victor Uwaifo sound stage, in Benin city. It promises to be so much fun!

THE LIGHT-BENDER!
"Anything that emits light can be used for lighting on a film set" - Stanlee Ohikhuare.
|
I taught "LIGHTING DESIGN" from Monday, November 22nd, to Friday November 26th, 2021. Anyone who knows me knows how passionate I am about "LIGHT-BENDING" as I call it. My emphasis was on the use of light, color, framing and composition to tell emotional stories, and my "choice tools" were basic light emitters - regular household incandescent bulbs, table lamps, light from mobile phones, and more. The goal was to get the students to think outside the box, liberate themselves from restrictive preconceived notions about lighting, and more important - dare to experiment! We never used even a single "production light", even though I possess an assortment of high-end professional lights. We shot beautiful scenes using simple light emitters, and the result can be seen in some of the images below. The feedback from the students simply made my day. Sequel to this training, I will be teaching in Benin city next. I taught the students how to light for film, using anything that emits light. |

Visit to the IDP camp in Borno State.
Stanlee Ohikhuare recently visited two IDP (Internally Displaced People's) Camps in Maiduguri, situated in the heart of the endemic Boko Haram insurgency in the Northern region of Nigeria, in West Africa.
This visit will result in yet another visually stunning narrative from the filmmaker' subjective first-person standpoint, titled #NOTHOME. The trip was enabled by UNITED NATIONS, and The World Food Programme (WFP). The inclusion was made possible through Nike Art Gallery.
