STANLEE OHIKHUARE SUCCESSFULLY DIRECTS THE FIRST EDITION OF THE REALTIME INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL.
The maiden edition of the REALTIME INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL was a huge success with Stanlee Ohikhuare as the Artistic Director.
It was innovative and extremely creatives with several additions that were absolutely novel; including the premiere of the controversial movie 'BEHIND THE WHEELS" at the African Shrine, and the effective use of Technology to bridge the gap between those in attendance and those who could not travel down to Lagos for the Festival. STANLEE OHIKHUARE INVENTS A NEW FILM STYLE.
PAYBACK
an experimental film.
"PAYBACK" is a totally unplanned and unscripted short movie which I shot on one fateful day when I had a courtesy visit by some actors; many of whom I was meeting for the first time.
For those who saw my BALANCING ACT U.K interview by Russel Southwood on Smart Monkey TV a couple of moths ago, you would remember that I mentioned something about creating a Novel Film Style
where all the actors would communicates convincingly, speaking different languages.
Well, these visiting Actors availed me of the opportunity to carry out an experimental test - shoot of the film style.
In this movie, the actors speak five distinct languages. Debola speaks YORUBA, Brutus speaks EFIK, Sidney speaks IGBO, Hadiza speaks ETSAKO (EDO) while Pat speaks PIDGIN ENGLISH.
For uniformity and back-story comprehension, the entire dialogue is subtitled in English.
This is a move towards the preservation of our native dialects; especially Nigerian languages.
As you watch the movie below, try to ignore my reflection in the mirror!!! And please drop a line in the comments segment on YOU TUBE to let me know how to improve on this medium. Suggestions are most welcome.

Stanlee Ohikhuare's HORN FREE DAY - selected for screening at the LIGHTS CAMERA AFRICA!!! FILM FESTIVAL.
LIGHTS, CAMERA AFRICA!!! 2015 – ‘FUTURE FORWARD’ In a rousing fifth year, the Lights, Camera, Africa!!! Film Festival presents this year’s festival under the title, Future Forward.
Future Forward is an assembly of bold and energetic pieces of African and independent cinema that portray the intrepid spirit that characterises the force that propels us and feeds our imperative to go forth, with certainty and to succeed. This spirit is illustrated on the continent through constant movement in various fields of endeavour. This movement is marked by a purposeful quest for achieving a higher self. It is illustrated by a country that has elected a new political dispensation. This spirit is what The Life House continues to be inspired by as curtains close on a half-decade and open for a new one. It is not the end of an era but the commemoration of an epoch in which we have illuminated Lagos and in turn have been invigorated repeatedly by the energy, the dynamism & the essence of the city. This is why we are who we are and do what we do…and this is what we celebrate through cinema. |

VERDICT ON BELLA NAIJA
Suicide or Murder? Zainab Balogun Re-Enacts Brutal Death of LaVena Johnson in “Verdict” |
BellaNaijarians, this is a must watch! Nigerian filmmaker Stanlee Ohikhuare and TV personality/model Zainab Balogun collaborate on an emotional short film – Verdict. The 9-minute clip is based on the death of LaVena Johnson, a 19 year old African-American girl who enlisted in the army and died 8 weeks after she was deployed to Iraq. It was nine days to her 20th birthday. Her death was brutal, she was hit in the head with a blunt instrument, her nose was broken, her elbow distended, and her clothes had debris indicating she had been dragged from one location to another. The US army ruled her death a suicide but when her father saw her body in funeral home, he decided to investigate. They claim that LaVena shot herself with her M-16 gun, but the gunshot was on the left side of her head, LaVena was right handed. READ MORE ON BELLA NAIJA>>> |

Nigerian Director Makes Graphic Short Film, “Verdict,” in Search of Justice for American Servicewoman

NIGERIAN DIRECTOR MAKES GRAPHIC SHORT FILM IN SEARCH OF JUSTICE ... http://thesource.com/2014/07/19/nigerian-director-makes-graphic-short-film-verdict-in-search-of-justice-for-american-servicewoman-lavena-johnson/ The heartbreaking story of LaVena Johnson, a member of the U.S. Army who was more than likely brutally murdered in Iraq continues to generate a buzz on the ‘net, despite the Army’s insistence that the case is closed: LaVena Johnson committed suicide, they say.
In fact, the case continues to garner attention because of the Army’s insistence that the case remained closed as a suicide. All of the evidence blatantly points to the fact that LaVena Johnson was murdered in cold blood, and not by an enemy either, but by a fellow American. MORE>> |
ON THE SET OF "VERDICT" WITH ZAINAB BALOGUN
On the 8th of July 2014, I finally shot a Movie I had been preparing to shoot for over two years -VERDICT. It is based on the true story of a 19 year old American Girl who was murdered in her tent while serving her Nation. What caught my interest was that in the light of very clear evidence that she was molested and subsequently murdered, the verdict given by the investigators and jury was SUICIDE.
My shoot is all about a re-enactment of everything that happened to her - based on autopsy report. I am simply asking the unanswered question - "who would go this far just to kill herself?"
I know this material will cause a lot of controversy and I hope it will manage to bring this young girl's case to the limelight in pursuance of true Justice.
Many thanks to Zainab Balogun who portrayed the character's predicament very well. It was nice working with her. She was so patient that she even laid in a pool of blood for over 24 minutes towards the end of the shoot while we perfected the Cinematography.

Kudos to the Mighty Jot Studios' Crew - always up to the task and patient with my domineering and intimidating style of shoot. These guys have come to accept the fact that "almost" never counts and that the visual fidelity of the picture can never be compromised notwithstanding the odds and challenges faced - it's always about delivering and savoring the excellence of the eventual cinematic execution!

Cinematographer and Director Stanlee Ohikhuare’s award winning ‘LOOP’ "LOOP" was intentionally shot to confuse and bug the mind". Even the conversations and scenarios were virtually looped to leave the viewer hollow, confused about the unfolding events and short of conclusions. Loop should be a surrealist's delight.
